Wedding Trends for 2014: THE CAKE

3/20/2014

Brides, we know you are the queen at your wedding, but let's discuss the showpiece of your reception...The Cake. Twenty years ago, most cakes had multiple tiers, usually separated by columns, stairs, flowers, a colored fountain...or all of the above! Plop a figurine on top, add some frosting roses and there was your cake! We've come a long way, baby, with fondant replacing frosting, and the traditional cake topper a thing of the past. Here are some of the trends we're keeping our eye on for Wedding Cakes in 2014:
Picture
Fondant Flowers add romance to a wedding cake, gracing styles from modern to rustic....and everything is completely edible!

Picture
Instead of a smooth surface of glistening frosting, more cakes are sporting textured surfaces, including the modern ruffle.

Picture
Just as 2014 wedding gowns are featuring more beading and jewels, so are cakes. Metallic frostings, glitter trims, brooches and rhinestones all make a sparkling statement of formality.

Picture
Ombre' shaded frosting (varying from light to dark) in the color of the wedding is a new trend we love! Also, frosting roses in an all-over pattern mimic the romantic fashions of the year.

Picture
Romance, romance, romance! Vintage-style lace  reflects the appliqués adorning a bridal gown, with Shabby Chic styling. Include an antique brooch, old-world roses and display on a ornate cake stand for added va-voom!

Picture
The "Naked Cake", with frosting found only between the layers, is the height of Rustic Chic! Add fresh flowers for a natural, Bohemian vibe.

Custom-made cake toppers reflect the bride and groom's personal style, and the theme of the wedding. Love birds, bunting, animals, words of love, initials, succulents and toys all can be displayed on the top of your cake...making it a showpiece!

Make sure that your wedding cake is a reflection of your wedding style! For more great wedding tips, come see us at The Bride's Shoppe or give us a call at 761-6338. We love to talk about All Things Wedding!

Thanks for reading...

Booking a limo is just one of the many things that you need to get in order when planning your wedding. It is important to get the transportation for the bride and groom, and anyone else that will be travelling during the wedding day, figured out and planned so you can put it behind you and focus on the other details of the wedding.

We have all certainly heard the saying, "Diamonds are a girl's best friend." But the appeal of diamonds goes beyond the visual appeal.

Let me offer just one quick word of advice, from someone who successfully navigated high school without too many scars and is now attending college: Don’t let dating become a priority. Sophomore year can be so much fun. Don’t add drama where it’s not necessary.

Emotional regulation requires us to put self-awareness into practice in our lives. Trying out the 5, 10 or 15-minute exercise is a great way to better regulate our emotions and learn from them rather than divert, deflect, or push them away.

Thanks for explaining that we should consider the weather when dressing for our own graduation. I need to buy a graduation stole and find an outfit that matches. Your article provided some great tips to keep in mind as I choose an outfit!

I love your descriptions and photos. I think I would like to wear some of the hats. Corsets and hobble skirts, absolutely not. Some of the looser and flowing dresses, maybe.

Thank you. I mean if someone wants to buy brand names let them, but why must they always brag and put down the generic brands for supposedly being of “lower quality.” I’m not one to have the latest and greatest electronics. All that matters for me is that it works, I never really cared for the HDTV’s, the high definition stereos and the like.
